Four men have been detained in Germany following a fatal attack on an asylum seeker in the Netherlands, German police said on Tuesday.

The men are suspected of assaulting a 23-year-old Somali man in The Hague in July.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 23, live in Germany and were detained near the city of Wuppertal, in the west of the country.

Dutch prosecutors have requested his extradition.

The Somali man lived in accommodation for asylum seekers. On the night of July 21, an argument between him and four men in a pub in The Hague led to the fatal confrontation.

The man died shortly afterwards in hospital.

Details of how the attack unfolded and a possible motive were not released.
