US says ready to work with Bangladesh interim government

The United States said Wednesday it stands ready to work with Bangladesh’s interim government as the country charts a democratic future for its people.

“We continue to monitor developments in Bangladesh and have obviously seen the appointment of Muhammad Yunus as leader of an interim government,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters at his daily press briefing.

“We believe the interim government will play a vital role in establishing long-term peace and political stability in Bangladesh,” Miller said, responding to questions about rapid development in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, a State Department spokesperson told PTI: “All decisions regarding the interim government must respect democratic principles, the rule of law and the will of the people of Bangladesh.” “We understand that Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has agreed to lead the interim government of Bangladesh. We stand ready to work with the interim government as it charts a democratic future for the people of Bangladesh,” the spokesperson said in response to a question .
