Dhaka:

Nobel Prize-winning economist Muhammad Yunus is expected to return to Bangladesh on Thursday, the Bangladesh-based Dhaka Tribune reported.

Yunus will arrive at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on an Emirates flight from Dubai at 2:10 pm, provided the flight is on time, the Dhaka Tribune reported, citing a statement from the Yunus Centre.

Yunus’ return comes at a time when he is expected to assume a significant role as head of the interim government, following a meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

Nahid Islam, coordinator of the Student Anti-Discrimination Movement, said that the oath-taking ceremony of Yunus, proposed as head of the interim government during a meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin, will take place the next day, Dhaka Tribune reported.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Yunus Center congratulated the students who played a key role in holding the Second Victory Day and urged the public to avoid violence.

“I congratulate the courageous students who took the lead in making our Second Victory Day possible and the people for giving them their full support. Let us make the best use of our new victory. Let us not let this slip away because of our mistakes. I appeal I fervently urge everyone to remain calm. Please avoid all types of violence. I appeal to all students, members of all political parties and non-political people to remain calm,” the statement read.

The declaration highlighted the country’s potential and called on the population to focus on building a better future. “This is our beautiful country with many exciting possibilities. We must protect it and make it a wonderful country for ourselves and our future generations,” the Yunus Center added in its statement.

The Yunus Center further said that violence is its enemy.

“Our youth are ready to give this leadership in creating a new world. Let us not miss the chance to indulge in any senseless violence. Violence is our enemy. Please do not create more enemies. Be calm and prepare to build the country If we follow the path of violence, everything will be destroyed. Please remain calm. Help the people around you to remain calm.”
