Paris:

French police on Friday arrested an Egyptian Olympic wrestler for allegedly groping a woman in a bar, prosecutors said.

Authorities detained Mohamed Elsayed, 26, in front of a cafe in the 13th district of the French capital, at around 5 am, after being accused of “putting his hand on the buttocks of a female patron”, informed the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Elsayed, who won bronze at the Tokyo Games, lost to Hasrat Jafarov of Azerbaijan in Greco-Roman wrestling under 67 kg on Wednesday. His opponent won the bronze medal.

A fellow Egyptian with the same name won a bronze medal in epee fencing at the Paris Olympics.

It was not immediately clear whether the fighter had yet been released.

French newspaper Le Parisien said he was “extremely drunk”.
