Police said the NYPD Emergency Services Unit (ESU) received a call around 3:30 p.m. local time about a woman who appeared to be ready to jump from the building’s ledge.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found themselves separated from the woman by a glass partition, forcing them to use a rope to reach her on the 54th floor.
The video shows two officers holding the woman’s left arm through a crack. It then shows another police officer tied to the rope jumping over the glass wall.
He joins another colleague as police wait on the other side to grab the woman. One of the rescuers is heard telling the woman, “You’re okay.”
“When the public needs help, they call the police. When the police need help, they call ESU,” the NYPD said in the X post.
The bold effort received widespread praise from social media users.
“Damn, guys, I’ve run into some crazy things, but never, ever into the edge of a building! Awesome job, great job,” commented one user
New York Post Office said the woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital.
