Woman in Italy falls dead after slipping from zipline safety harness

A 41-year-old woman has died after slipping from her seat belt and falling more than 60 feet while riding a zipline in Italy. According to New Zealand Herald, Ghizlane Moutahir died on Sunday in front of his family after slipping from his seat belt at the Fly Emotion Park in Lombardo, Italy. The adventure sport was supposed to take her 750 feet above the beautiful scenery at great speeds before stopping. However, her seat belt failed to restrain her as she neared the end of the ride, and she fell more than 60 feet from the zipline, sparking an investigation.

Citing witnesses, the New Zealand Herald reported that Ms Moutahir was approaching the end of the 60mph zip line when she began to struggle before escaping. Paramedics rushed to the scene to try to save her, but police said she died instantly on impact.

“We still don’t know exactly what could have happened. I’m shocked and in disbelief,” Matteo Sanguineti, CEO of the company Fly Emotion, told the Italian news agency. TODAYNews. “We are at the complete disposal of the judiciary that is now investigating. And we are close to the victim’s family. More than 200,000 people will have flown across the crossing between the cities of Bema and Albaredo. I am shocked and in disbelief,” he said. Sanguineti added.

Ms Moutahir’s two nieces were with her at the time of the tragedy. They filmed the entire incident while completing the zip line course.

Police said the 41-year-old man stopped on the steel cable and was suspended in the air for several seconds. Officers believe she likely “started struggling” after realizing she had stopped. “This caused her to become off balance and she fell from the harness approximately 20 meters into the woods below and died instantly,” a police spokesperson said. “It’s also possible that she had some sort of panic attack and that’s what made her fight or perhaps some other medical episode, but we’re awaiting post-mortem results,” they added.

Authorities are investigating the deadly crash. They will carry out checks on safety equipment and, as a precaution, have temporarily closed the park, the NZ Herald reported. They will also examine the video taken by Ms Moutahir’s two nieces to carefully understand the fatal incident.
