Kathmandu:
Nepal’s Kami Rita Sherpa, also known as ‘Everest Man’, on Sunday morning broke her record by climbing the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, for the 29th time.
The 54-year-old mountaineer and Sherpa guide last spring scaled the 8,848.86-meter-high peak twice in one week, setting a record for the 28th summit. But the climber has hinted that he intends to climb the peak twice, this time again.
Before the summit, Kami Rita stated that she “has no plans to climb Sagarmatha (Nepali name for Mount Everest) a certain number of times”.
According to Department of Tourism officials, the record-breaking climber reached the summit of Everest at 7:25 am (NST) on Sunday while guiding an expedition organized by ‘Seven Summit Treks’.
“Congratulations to Kami Rita Sherpa @kamiritasherpa, Senior Guide at Seven Summit Treks on her 29th successful ascent of Mount Everest this morning at 7:25 am, May 12, 2024. This ascent earned Kami Rita the title of ‘Most Successful Ascension of Mt. Everest by an individual,'” Seven Summit Treks shared in an Instagram post on Sunday morning, breaking the news of the summit success.
Sherpa, in late May, began his expedition in Kathmandu accompanying a mountaineering expedition team comprising about 28 climbers. Kami Rita has been climbing Sagarmatha as a guide for climbers.
Kami Rita is a climber who holds the record for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak in the 71-year history of climbing in Sagarmatha.
Pasang Dawa Sherpa, also from Solukhumbu, climbed Sagarmatha for the 27th time last year. But it is not confirmed whether he will cast Sagarmatha this time.
