Church responds to double disaster in Papua New Guinea

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been sending food, water containers, tarps and other supplies to areas affected by twin disasters in Papua New Guinea.

Torrential rain combined with strong winds during March and April triggered flooding and landslides across the country, which comprises the eastern half of the island of New Guinea, north of Australia.

Floods and landslides killed at least 23, it said Australian Broadcasting Corp. One of the victims of the landslide was a member of the Koningi Branch in Goroka District Papua New Guinea, the The Church’s Pacific Newsroom reported on May 1st.
