Seven soldiers were injured after a World War II munition exploded at the Signal Corps Military Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia’s Leningrad Military District said.
The explosion occurred on Friday during the cleaning of one of the basements, when people unloaded garbage into a container, the district press office said, cited by Xinhua news agency.
A 76-millimeter ammunition from World War II was “arbitrarily detonated,” the press office said.
The injured were taken to the Ministry of Defense health center, according to the press office.
Saint Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov denied that the incident was related to terrorism.
