Indian-American woman raises $1 million for US Congressional race

Washington:

Indian-American congressional candidate from Virginia Krystle Kaul has raised $1 million for her race, a milestone only a few newcomers can achieve.

“I have consistently broken barriers throughout my career, from the CIA to US Central Command to the Pentagon, driven by a dedication to excellence. I became one of the youngest directors ever at the Department of Defense,” Kaul said in a statement. after her campaign announced that she had reached the $1 million fundraising mark.

“I’m often told I can’t do it – and then I can,” she said.

Kaul, who is of Kashmiri heritage as well as Punjabi heritage, is running for the US House of Representatives from Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.

If elected, she would be the second Indian-American woman to be elected to the House, after Pramila Jayapal of Washington state.

A small business owner, teacher and former senior defense official with the Department of Defense holding the highest civilian rank, Ms. Kaul is a second-generation Indian-American who has worked on defense contracts with Deloitte, Booz Allen Hamilton , Leidos, General Dynamics IT and others.

“I’m excited to announce that this pioneering spirit fueled our campaign, resonating deeply with donors who demand pragmatic, results-oriented leadership,” said Ms. Kaul.

“The robust support we have received signals a clear demand from Virginia voters for a leader who understands the complexities of national security and emerging technology trends and is ready to enact effective policies,” she said.

Kaul is the only Indian-American woman in the Democratic race to represent a district that is 44% minority.

“Our campaign turns promises into action, driven by the trust and commitment of our supporters. We are prepared to bring meaningful change to our district and beyond. Now is the time for serious, progress-focused leadership in Congress,” she said.

“VA-10 is ready for a qualified, truly battle-tested, ready-to-go Black woman with extensive political experience. I am excited to lead the charge in sending a national security Democrat to Congress,” Ms. said.

Kaul graduated with a bachelor’s degree from American University and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and Brown University, where he was working on his PhD in Political Science.

She speaks nine languages ​​and has Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraphy.
