Range Rovers will soon be built outside the UKJAGUAR LAND ROVER

Jaguar Land Rover has been owned by Indian mega-conglomerate Tata since 2008, but it’s still surprising that it’s only now that the fantastic new Range Rover starting local production there. Range Rovers are all set to start rolling off the line from Tata’s Pune factory soon.

The assembly should begin next month, as per EVO India reports and from India Business today notes that deliveries of the locally built Range Rovers will begin “immediately.” The locally made Range Rover Sports will be launched in August by Business today.

So why is production only happening now? Well, JLR has been running this factory since 2011 to build other models, so it’s not just a matter of suddenly there being a place to build Range Rovers.

More pertinently, Range Rover sales have soared in India, with a “160% increase in Range Rover retail sales in India in the current fiscal year”, it reports. Business today. The idea is to reduce costs and waiting times, with prices for these models falling in India as well.

It’s a notable shift for Range Rover, which until now has always built its iconic vehicles in the UK – and a true sign of how production in the car industry continues to globalize in new ways.
