Donald Trump launched another vicious attack on Monday against his political opponents, choosing the Memorial Day holiday – when the United States marks its fallen soldiers – to deem his opponents as “human scum”.

While Americans honored their troops who died in conflicts with visits to cemeteries and backyard barbecues with family and friends, the former Republican president published Truth Social on his platform against his supposed enemies.

These included judges who have overseen or are overseeing cases against him — civil cases for sexual assault and corporate fraud, and the current history-making criminal trial stemming from hush money payments to a porn star just before the 2016 election.

“Happy Memorial Day to everyone, including the human scum who are working so hard to destroy our once great country,” said Trump, who is leading in many polls in swing states as he prepares to face President Joe Biden in the November election.

He went on to attack his various legal adversaries, calling one of the judges “crazy.” He also attacked E. Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist who was found liable in a 1996 civil suit for sexual abuse and defamation. A judge ordered him to pay $88 million.

In a separate post, Trump posted a photo of himself saluting a grave covered with an American flag and a caption that read: “We can never replace them. We can never pay them back. But we can always remember them.”

His dismissal of people as “human scum” was in line with other comments in which Trump derided some people as less than human.

He called the U.S. left “worms” and said migrants crossing the border from Mexico “are poisoning the blood of our country.” Both remarks were criticized for evoking Nazi Germany.

Trump’s fiery post on Monday contrasted with the emotional comments Biden made during his annual holiday pilgrimage to Arlington National Cemetery, the vast cemetery for American soldiers across the Potomac River from Washington, with rows and more rows of white tombstones.

In a speech, Biden noted that the cemetery held the remains of soldiers killed in all US wars, starting with the Civil War of the 1860s, through the World Wars in Europe and even Iraq and Afghanistan in contemporary times.

“Today, we witness the price they paid,” Biden said.

“Every white stone in these hills, in every military cemetery and church cemetery across America: a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, a wife, a neighbor – an American.”
