Jerusalem:

Israel will not agree to any suspension of fighting in Gaza that is not part of a deal that includes the return of hostages, a senior Israeli security official said on Friday.

The comment came after a statement from Hamas declaring it would be ready to reach a deal that included the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners as long as Israel stopped fighting in Gaza.

“There will be no truce nor any halt to the fighting in Gaza that is not integral to a hostage release agreement,” the official said in comments sent to Reuters. “Any ceasefire would only emerge within the framework of an agreement.”
