New York:
Former US President Donald Trump protested his criminal conviction on Friday, calling his trial in New York “very unfair”, attacking the process as politicized and vowing to appeal.
“It was very unfair… You saw what happened to some of the witnesses who were on our side – they were literally crucified,” Trump said in a rambling speech at Trump Tower in Manhattan in which he called his opponents “sick.” . and “fascists”.
He vowed to challenge his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records, declaring “we are going to appeal this scam…on a lot of different things.”
Trump claimed he wanted to testify, as was his legal right, but was not allowed.
Legal observers have suggested that this would expose the Republican candidate in November’s presidential election to enormous legal and political risk if he had been questioned by prosecutors.
Trump said he was “honored” to stand up to the legal system, but that “it’s really bad for my family, it’s really bad for my friends and businesses.”
