TWO lovers made secret plans to present surprise proposals – and then discovered they had bought almost identical rings.

Caelidh Walker wore a special diamond band she commissioned to pop the question to her partner Karen Ann Innes, 31.

But when she got down on one knee, whiskey worker Caelidh, 26, discovered that teacher Karen had ordered an almost identical engagement ring to be made by the same jeweler – and she had it in her pocket at the time.

Caelidh said: “The rings are a sign that we were made for each other.”

She planned her proposal last month on Portencross Beach, near West Kilbride, Ayrshire, with the help of the couple’s golden retriever Bear.

The location had special relevance because it was where they became a couple 11 months ago.

Caelidh said: “It’s probably one of our favorite places to walk Bear.

“And Karen once said in passing how nice it would be to get engaged there.

“So I put it in the back of my mind for the future. I had set up a little tent and a sign, and as soon as I got down on one knee, Karen pulled out her ring too.”

The couple then discovered they had both ordered rings from jewelers Colin Campbell in Inverness.

Karen said: “We approached them within days of each other but we had no idea.

“And we each chose the same diamond design – the only thing slightly different are the settings.”

The bride-to-be excitedly shows off her new engagement ring, but everyone is saying the same thing about her nails

Jeweler Lorna Reynolds, 53, said: “Caelidh got in touch with her ideas for a design and two days later Karen emailed with an almost identical request.

“I thought there was a glitch in my emails and I received the same message twice.

“I’m glad the secret is out and we can share the good news.”
