5.0 magnitude earthquake hits Bangladesh

Dhaka:

An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook parts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka.

According to Sanjay Kumar Biswas, forecasting officer at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred at around 2:44 pm local time and the epicenter was monitored in Myanmar, 441 km southeast of the Agargaon Seismic Center in the capital Dhaka.

On Sunday, firefighters in Dhaka said they had not received any reports of damage or casualties so far, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Bangladesh, which lies in the earthquake zone, is prone to tremors.
