Gaza:
The Israeli army announced on Monday the death of four hostages in the Gaza Strip, following their kidnapping by the Hamas group during the October 7 attack.
“Representatives (of the Israeli army) have informed the families of Chaim Perry, Yoram Metzger, Amiram Cooper and Nadav Popplewell, who were brutally kidnapped in the Gaza Strip on October 7, that they are no longer alive and that their bodies are being held by the organization terrorist Hamas,” an army statement said.
Military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a separate video address: “We assess that the four were killed while together in the Khan Yunis area during our operation against Hamas.”
The Israeli community at kibbutz Nirim had already confirmed the death of Popplewell, a British-Israeli citizen.
Hamas’ armed wing said in a video last month that Popplewell, held captive in Gaza since the Oct. 7 attack, died from wounds suffered in Israeli airstrikes.
Hamas released a video in December showing the other three alive.
The campaign group Forum for Hostages and Missing Families said in a statement that it “bows its head with great sadness upon receiving the devastating news of the murder (of the four) in captivity.”
On Monday morning, the military said it had located in kibbutz Nir Oz the body of Dolev Yehud, 35, a paramedic who until now was believed to be held hostage in Gaza but who was killed on October 7.
