'Taiwan is an inalienable part of China': Chinese Embassy in India

The Chinese Embassy in India reiterated that Taiwan is an “inalienable part” of China’s territory.

New Delhi:

The Chinese Embassy in India reiterated on Thursday that Taiwan is an “inalienable part” of China’s territory.

The embassy spokesperson also emphasized that One China is a universally recognized norm in international relations and a prevailing consensus in the international community.

“There is only one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People’s Republic of China. The one-China principle is a universally recognized norm in international relations and a prevailing consensus in the international community,” they said. .

The spokesperson noted that India has diplomatic relations with China.

Furthermore, he also stressed that India should recognize and resist the political calculations of the Taiwanese authorities on the one-China policy.

“India has diplomatic relations with China and is well aware of China’s position. Based on the one-China principle, India has made serious political commitments and must recognize, be alarmed and resist the political calculations of the Taiwanese authorities,” he added the spokesperson.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te congratulated him on his third consecutive general election victory and said he looked forward to expanding the “fast-growing” ties between the two nations.

He further emphasized on expanding India-Taiwan collaboration in trade, technology and other sectors to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

“My sincere congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi on his election victory. We look forward to enhancing the fast-growing #Taiwan-#India partnership by expanding our collaboration in trade, technology and other sectors to contribute to peace and prosperity in the #IndoPacific” , President Lai posted on X.

The India-Taiwan economic partnership has grown significantly in recent years.

Taiwan considered India a critical partner under its “New Southern Policy”, and both countries also signed a migration agreement to allow Indian workers to be employed in Taiwanese industries.

Lai Ching-te, in a stern warning to China, called on Beijing to stop intimidating the island nation, which China continues to lay claim to. China also stepped up military exercises after Lai took office as president of the island nation, increasing tensions in the region.

The counting of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was held on Tuesday. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, much lower than the 303 seats in 2019. The Congress, on the other hand, recorded strong growth, winning 99 seats. The INDIA bloc surpassed the 230 mark, presenting strong competition and defying all predictions.
