JERUSALEM — Israel on Saturday canceled school visits and other youth activities planned for the coming days, the start of the Easter festival, and placed the armed forces on full alert due to a possible attack by Iran.
Announcing the measures in a televised briefing, the military’s top spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said dozens of fighter planes were in the air as part of the state of readiness.
President Joe Biden announced he would return to Washington on Saturday afternoon to consult with his national security team, a day after saying he he expects an Iranian attack against Israel “sooner or later.”
Biden ended his weekend trip to Delaware early, the White House said Saturday, to discuss developments in the Middle East. Tehran vowed to retaliate for Israel’s attack on Iranian embassy complex last week in Damascus which killed a senior Quds Force commander overseas from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and six other officers.
