London:

Princess Anne, sister of King Charles III, was in hospital on Monday after suffering “minor injuries and concussion” following an incident at her country home, Gatcombe Park, Buckingham Palace said.

“His Royal Highness remains at Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and speedy recovery,” the statement said, adding that the incident occurred on Sunday evening.

“The King has been kept well informed and joins the entire Royal Family in sending their greatest love and best wishes to the Princess for a speedy recovery,” he added.

The 73-year-old royal will remain in hospital in southwest England “unless or until her medical team advises otherwise.”

The princess, a keen horsewoman who competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, took on extra commitments while the king and his daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales, recovered from cancer.

But his engagements for next week will be postponed, Buckingham Palace said, including his planned attendance at Tuesday’s state banquet for the emperor and empress of Japan.

The grounds of Gatcombe Park are known for hosting the annual Festival of British Eventing, which attracts the world’s best equestrian stars.
