WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange returned home to Australia to start life as a free man on Wednesday after admitting he revealed US defense secrets in a deal that opened the door to his prison cell In London.

Assange touched down on a cold Canberra night by private jet, the final stage in an international drama that took him from a five-year stint in Britain’s maximum security Belmarsh prison to a court on an island territory in US Pacific and ultimately home.
