Mexico’s incoming president appoints expert in sustainable development as head of energy

MEXICO CITY — Mexico Incoming President Claudia Sheinbaum On Thursday he announced five additional members of his future cabinet, introducing a group of scientists and former colleagues including Luz Elena González, an expert in sustainable development, as the next Energy secretary.

Sheinbaum highlighted González’s experience in renewable energy and financial management, an area that will be useful in the department’s relationship with state companies such as the oil giant Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission. Before his appointment, González was in charge of Mexico City’s finances.

Sheinbaum also appointed Raquel Buenrostro as secretary of public administration.
