Tehran, Iran:

Iran warned on Saturday that “all Resistance Fronts”, a grouping of Iran and its regional allies, would confront Israel if it attacked Lebanon.

The comment from Iran’s mission in New York comes amid fears of a wider regional war involving Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon. The two sides have engaged in almost daily exchanges of fire since the start of the war in Gaza.

Such discussions have increased this month, along with bellicose rhetoric from both sides. Israel’s military said plans for an offensive in Lebanon were “approved and validated”, prompting Hezbollah to respond that no one from Israel would be spared in an all-out conflict.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Iranian mission said it “considers the Zionist regime’s propaganda about the intention to attack Lebanon as psychological warfare.”

But, he added, “if we embark on full-scale military aggression, a devastating war will result. All options, including the full involvement of all Resistance Fronts, are on the table.”

The war in Gaza began in October, when Palestinian Hamas agents attacked southern Israel.

Iran, which supports Hamas, hailed the attack as a success but denied any involvement.

In parallel with Hezbollah’s attacks on northern Israel, Iranian-backed rebels in Yemen have repeatedly attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea area, in what they consider to be acts of solidarity with the Palestinians.

Iran also supports other groups in the region.

The Islamic republic has not recognized Israel since the 1979 revolution that overthrew the US-backed shah of Iran.

Fears of a regional war also increased in April, following an airstrike that destroyed Iran’s consulate in Damascus and killed seven Revolutionary Guards, two of them generals.

Iran responded with an unprecedented drone and missile attack against Israel on April 13 and 14.

Iran’s state media later reported explosions in the central province of Isfahan, while U.S. media cited American officials as saying Israel had carried out retaliatory strikes against its arch-rival.

Tehran downplayed the reported Israeli attack.
