S Jaishankar discusses trade, technology and global issues with Qatar PM

Doha:

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday met Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Doha and reviewed the bilateral relationship, focusing on politics, trade, investment, energy, technology , culture and interpersonal ties.

Jaishankar, who arrived here on a day-long visit, also exchanged views on regional and global issues with Sheikh Mohammed, who also holds the portfolio as External Affairs Minister.

“Nice to meet Qatar PM and FM @MBA_AlThani_ in Doha this afternoon. Conveyed PM @narendramodi’s greetings and warm wishes to His Highness, the Amir and him,” Mr. Jaishankar said in an X post.

“We reviewed our bilateral relationship with a focus on politics, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties. We exchanged views on regional and global issues. I appreciate your sharing of ideas on the situation in Gaza,” he said.

“We look forward to strengthening India-Qatar relations and continued dialogue on issues of mutual interest,” he added.

Jaishankar’s visit comes four and a half months after Qatar released eight former Indian Navy personnel, who were sentenced to death after being arrested in August 2022.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Jaishankar was received at the airport by Chief of Protocol, Ibrahim Fakhroo.

The visit “would allow both sides to review various aspects of bilateral relations, including political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural and people-to-people issues, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest,” the Ministry of Relations said.
