Washington:

The United States is deepening its relationship with India in several important areas, a senior administration official said on Monday.

“India is a country in which we are deepening our relationships within a number of key spaces, especially in terms of deepening our economic ties, deepening our security cooperation,” said the deputy spokesperson of the State Department, Vedant Patel, to journalists at his daily press conference.

“The President had the opportunity to briefly see Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the G7 a few weeks ago,” he added.

Patel said he imagines there will be a number of additional areas where the two countries can continue to deepen cooperation.

“National Security Advisor Sullivan also visited Delhi a few weeks ago,” he said.

Responding to a question on Pakistan, Patel, while denouncing terrorism, said that “ultimately, this is between India and Pakistan”. “In general terms, of course, we welcome any country that establishes more positive relations with its neighbors. But when it comes specifically to this, I simply have nothing to offer,” he added.
