THIS is the horrific moment the 4th of July fireworks failed and hit a crowd inside a football stadium.

According to local media, one person was hit in the face by the fire projectile, several others were injured by pyrotechnic displays as crowds gathered to celebrate American independence.

At least two fireworks were launched at the artists on the field, while two others hit a stand, falling between a row of spectators.

An audience of around 50 thousand people was expected for the event.

Celebrations would be halted for 20 minutes while people were rushed to local hospitals to treat their injuries. In total, six people were taken to hospital.

However, Provo Police Department spokeswoman Janna-Lee Holland said the exact number and severity of injuries at the annual holiday event were not immediately available.

The Stadium of Fire is an annual event that takes place at LaVell Edwards Stadium at Brigham Young University. This year featured the presentation of the Jonas brothers.

According to local media reports, witnesses said there was a small fire in the stands, caused by rogue fireworks.

It was quickly extinguished.

The show got back on track around 9pm local time.

Organizers of America’s Freedom Festival said in a statement that safety was of “utmost importance” to them.

They said: “All pyrotechnics at the Stadium of Fire were thoroughly checked before the show and were checked again following tonight’s incident.”

“Our thoughts are with those who have been affected and we are following up with them to make sure they are OK.”

This comes after a chilling quadruple shark savagely attacked beachgoers in Texas on July 4th.

The oceanic predator attacked the South Padre Island resort town four times, Texason Thursday, law enforcement officials and the U.S. Coast Guard said.
