PRESIDENT Joe Biden may be facing a coup d’état within his own party as Democrats reportedly prepare to put Vice President Kamala Harris in his place.
An anonymous document titled “Coming Out About What Happened: Kamala’s Case” appears to lay out a detailed plan for a new campaign.
The secret archive, seen by CNNapparently says “There is a way out of this mess, and it’s Kamala.”
Drafted by “senior agents of democratic political institutions,” it includes an argument that explains why the vice president would be a better Democratic presidential candidate.
The shocking revelation comes after an increasingly strange series of mistakes by Biden, who faces calls to drop out of the race.
Just yesterday he mistakenly called himself a “black woman” during a radio interview.
In an attempt to salvage his reputation as a stuttering commander-in-chief, the President told ABC today that “only the Lord Almighty” could make him drop out of the race.
Forced to admit to a “bad episode” during his first head-to-head debate with opponent Donald Trump on June 27, Biden even admitted he didn’t care.
During the interview, the distracted president was quick to dismiss concerns about his age and mental fitness, which have dominated his campaign over the past 7 days.
He admitted he couldn’t “run 100 out of 10” but insisted: “I’m still in good shape.”
The President also appeared to forget the name of Sir Keir Starmer, who on Friday morning became the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
CNN spoke to top House Democrats, who considered Kamala a much safer alternative for the upcoming November race.
A leader of a large Democratic group, which is historically skeptical of Harris’ ability to succeed, said: “He’s in very bad shape, but I’ve also had conversations with Democrats about her from some important groups who have been skeptical in the past who believe that everyone will support her if she is the nominee.”
The document circulated between them says: “There is a way out of this mess, and it is Kamala.
“Kamala Harris has the strongest claim to Democratic legitimacy. She is the only candidate who can take the reins now, rather than at the end of August, with less than three months to go.
“She has significant and largely underestimated electoral advantages. She can win.”
Despite stating that it is “not the best option”, it clearly states that “it is the only realistic option to win”.
“This is not an argument about deservingness or why you personally should love Kamala. It is about strategy and victory in the face of unimaginable electoral challenges.
“The anti-Trump coalition cannot afford to underestimate the strengths of the Democratic candidate and current vice president. It is not the best option – it is the only realistic option to win”, it reads.
The document’s name, “Relieved by What Was,” could be a light-hearted double entendre referring to Harris’s beloved phrase: “What May Be, Relieved by What Was.”
She has used it repeatedly at countless public events, speeches and interviews in recent years.
Tim Ryan, a former congressman from Ohio, said he was inundated with private agreements that Biden should step aside in favor of Harris.
He said: “It’s a clear shot and she’s ready to roll. We have to be decisive too.”
The politician added: “This matches the stereotype that Democrats are weak. In one fell swoop, you can change a lot of different narratives.”
An unnamed Democratic senator used the metaphor of an NFL star quarterback being swapped for a benched backup to win a game.
Officials are even discussing possible candidates for Harris’ running mate.
A spokesperson for the Biden camp told CNN, “President Biden is our candidate, Vice President Harris is our running mate, and we will win in November.”
