The wife of a firefighter who died during an attack at a Donald Trump rally received a call from President Joe Biden after tragedy struck her family on Saturday. Helen Compatore, however, did not speak with Biden and said Trump had not been in touch, the New York Post reported.

“I didn’t talk to Biden. I didn’t want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican and he wouldn’t want me to talk to him,” Corey Compatore’s wife said.

Corey, a father of two, was shot by a sniper’s bullet during the assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. Trump survived the attack, but a bullet pierced his right ear. He was seen with his face bloodied and his fist in the air as Secret Service agents carried him to safety.

When gunshots were heard, Corey shouted “Get down” and shielded his family from the bullets with his body. He died while two other rally participants were injured in the chaos.

His wife, Helen, said that although Trump had not contacted her, Biden’s call was unwelcome.

“I have no ill will toward Joe Biden. I’m not one of those people who gets involved in politics. I support Trump. That’s who I vote for, but I have no ill will toward Biden. He hasn’t done anything bad to my husband, a despicable 20-year-old boy did this,” she said.

The shooter who attacked Trump was identified as Thomas Mathew Crooks, a 20-year-old man. He was shot dead by snipers at the scene. The FBI, which is investigating the assassination attempt, is still trying to find a motive for the attack.
