Several people lost their lives in swimming accidents over the weekend in Germany as the country experienced hot summer weather. Some other people in distress were rescued, including two children.

In the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a 62-year-old man was discovered lifeless in a lake by a lifeguard and immediately brought ashore, a police spokeswoman said. Together with a doctor who was present, the lifeguard attempted resuscitation. However, these efforts were unsuccessful.

In the port of the city of Rostock, in the same state, passers-by found a person near the ferry terminal floating lifeless in the water. Paramedics called to the scene were only able to recover the body of the woman in a bikini. According to initial findings, there was no indication of a violent death for the 27-year-old, a water police spokesperson said.

In Hildesheim, in the northern state of Lower Saxony, an 84-year-old man died in an accident while driving a remote-controlled model boat on a local lake known as Hohensee. Police said the boat likely became entangled in aquatic plants, which caused the man to enter the lake, where he became trapped underwater near the boat. Divers recovered his body 50 minutes later.

Emergency services from the German Lifesaving Association (DLRG) saved a 17-year-old girl from the Baltic Sea on the beach at Graal Müritz, also in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The local girl went swimming at night with her boyfriend, who soon lost sight of her and reported her missing, a rescue service spokesman said.

With the help of a drone equipped with a thermal camera, the young woman was located approximately 100 meters from the coast. A lifeguard then brought her to shore virtually unharmed.
