Details of the agony 48 hours before the shocking announcement emerged — and showed that Biden was certain he would run for re-election, by Saturday.

Despite weeks of pressure to abandon the presidency raceAfter a series of gaffes it is a disastrous debate against Donald TrumpBiden remained adamant that he planned to remain in race for the November elections.

Also on Saturday, Biden told his advisers that he was determined to continue his campaign to defeat Donald Trump, a source said.

His advisers were even putting together a campaign schedule for him when he returned to the White House. next week.

The source added: “The message was ‘go full steam ahead’.”

But after analyzing polling data on Saturday night, the 81-year-old changed his mind.

Come as…

On Sunday, he gathered his senior White House and campaign staff and sensationally announced that he had I decided to give up at 1:45 pm – just a minute before posting your decision on X.

Another source said the president received an internal vote from his top aides on Saturday night — which ultimately led to his bombshell decision not to run for re-election.

Voters say Veep ‘predicted’ Joe Biden’s dropout and Kamala Harris’ endorsement as they joke ‘this is the Democrats’ Simpsons’

Data showed he was falling behind in six critical states, as well as other places like Virginia and Minnesota, where Democrats were not planning to spend massive resources.

The 81-year-old was recovering from Covid at his beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, when he received the data.

After announcing his decision to his closest aides, Steve Ricchetti and Mike Donilon, he asked them to begin drafting a letter — which he would later read to his White House boss and his campaign team over the phone.

One employee said: “He read the letter to us and wanted us to understand his thinking.

“He said he’s been fighting it for the last 48 hours.

“This was closely monitored. It was a surprise to most of the White House staff.”

Moments later, Biden announced his decision to the world in a post where he wrote: “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president.

“And while it was my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to step down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

A source familiar with the conversation said Biden has spoken with Vice President Kamala Harris several times.

About half an hour later, Biden endorsed the vice president as the Democratic presidential candidate – who responded that she was honored and intended to win the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

Biden said: “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as president for the remainder of my term.

“My first decision as the party’s 2020 candidate was to choose Kamala Harris as my vice president.

What happens next when Joe Biden drops out of the 2024 race?

President Biden has finally heeded calls to abandon his re-election bid, throwing the 2024 election into chaos. He has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, but nominating a new Democratic candidate will not be a simple process. Here’s what’s next after Biden’s stunning announcement.

Biden secured nearly 4,000 delegates by winning the state caucuses and primaries earlier this year. He was supposed to be officially named the Democratic nominee in a virtual vote before the Democratic National Convention, which begins on August 19.

Democratic Party rules do not allow Biden to simply pass his 3,896 delegates to Harris or another candidate.

Harris will now have to convince the nearly 4,000 delegates and 700 superdelegates to support her and nominate her candidate.

However, delegates are free agents who can choose to support any candidate they want – likely without voter input at this stage, since the primaries and caucuses have already been held.

All eyes are now on the previously planned virtual vote – where the Democratic Party could choose a candidate before the DNC begins.

Biden’s support for Harris will likely sway delegates, and no one has publicly challenged her as a candidate — but delegates are not required to support her. Even if virtual voting is not held, the party could still choose Harris or another candidate before the convention.

If Democrats do not nominate their candidate before the DNC, it will be the first open and contested convention since 1968.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year.

“Democrats – it’s time to come together and defeat Trump. Let’s do it.”

Biden’s ability to run for re-election has been questioned in recent weeks amid growing pressure from Democrats for him to step aside.

While Jill Biden reacted to her husband’s post with a heart emoji.

“Until the final hours of the decision that only he could make, she supported whatever path he chose,” said the first lady’s spokesperson.

“She is your biggest believer, champion and always by your side, in that trustworthy way that only a wife of almost 50 years can be.”

CLINTON SUPPORT

Bill and Hillary Clinton, who was introduced as Joe’s replacement, announced their support for Harris, saying they were “honored to join the president in endorsing her.”

The pair issued a joint statement just an hour after Biden suspended his campaignsaying they were honored to join Biden in endorsing her.

“President Biden capped his extraordinary career of service with a Presidency that brought America out of an unprecedented situation. pandemiccreated millions of new jobswe have rebuilt a shattered economy, strengthened our democracy and restored our standing in the world,” they said in the declaration posted on X.

“We join millions of Americans in thanking President Biden for all he has accomplished, standing up for America time and time again, with his North Star always being what is best for the country.

“We are honored to join the president in supporting Vice President Harris and will do everything we can to support her.”

TRUMP’S REACTION

Biden’s appeal comes just over a week after the assassination attempt on Trump – which reinforced the Republican candidate’s popularity and success in the polls.

Trump was quick to attack Biden after his announcement, writing, “We will suffer greatly because of your presidency.”

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for president and he is certainly not fit to serve – and never has been!” trump he wrote in your social media Social Truth platform.

“He only achieved the position of president through lies, false Newsand not leaving your basement.

“All those around him, including his doctor and the media, knew he was not capable of being president, and he was not – And now, look what he has done to our country, with millions of people crossing our border , completely unchecked and uncontrolled, many coming from prisons, psychiatric institutions and a record number of terrorists.

“We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will repair the damage he caused very quickly. Make America great again!”

Full letter from Joe Biden announcing his withdrawal from the campaign

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the 46th US President Joe Biden posted an X letter, formerly known as Twitter, announcing that he was stepping down from office in the 2024 presidential race.

My fellow Americans,

Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation.

Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We have made historic investments in rebuilding our nation, reducing prescription drug costs for seniors, and expanding affordable health care to record numbers of Americans. We provide critically needed care to one million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. Appointed first African-American woman to the Supreme Court. And it passed the most significant climate legislation in world history. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today.

I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We protect and preserve our democracy. And we revitalize and strengthen our alliances around the world.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. And while it was my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to resign and focus exclusively on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

I will speak to the Nation later this week with more details about my decision.

For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all of this work. And let me express my sincere thanks to the American people for the faith and trust they have placed in me.

I believe today what I’ve always believed: that there’s nothing America can’t do – when we do it together.

We just have to remember that we are the United States of America
