Barack Obama has so far not supported Kamala Harris

Many Democratic leaders have backed Kamala Harris as the party’s new candidate for U.S. president, but former President Barack Obama has stayed away until now.

According to the New York Post, Obama did not support Harris – who US President Joe Biden supported after dropping out of the race on Sunday, as he does not believe she can defeat Republican candidate Donald Trump.

“Obama is very upset because he knows she can’t win,” a Biden family source said The New York Post Office.

“Obama knows she is simply incompetent – the border czar who has never visited the border, saying all migrants should have health insurance. She can’t navigate the landmines in front of her,” the source said. “When you’re running for president, there are things you can and can’t say.”

The source said Obama’s hope was to get Biden out of the way and an op-ed written by actor George Clooney urging him to step aside was part of that plan.

Obama wanted Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly “at the top of the list” when the Democratic National Convention is held next month, the source told The New York Post.

“Obama is furious, things didn’t go the way he wanted, which is why he won’t join the Democratic Party’s support for Harris,” the source added.

However, NBC News reported Thursday that Barack Obama plans to endorse Kamala Harris soon.

Obama privately fully supported Harris’ candidacy and has been in regular contact with her, the report said, citing people familiar with the discussions.

“Aides to Obama and Harris have also discussed the possibility of the two appearing on the campaign trail together, although no date has been set,” the report said.

Will Michelle Obama Replace Joe Biden?

Early last month, before Joe Biden withdrew, US Senator Ted Cruz predicted that former first lady Michelle Obama would replace him.

His prediction came after Biden’s presidential debate against Donald Trump, which was widely criticized by political analysts.

“The chances are more than 80% that the Democratic Party will remove Joe Biden from the ticket and replace him with Michelle Obama because Biden did so disastrously badly (in the debate) that Democrats across the country are in total freefall and in complete panic.” he said.

Michelle Obama has so far expressed no interest in joining the race for the White House.
