Air traffic at Germany’s Frankfurt airport was temporarily suspended after activists from climate group Last Generation managed to gain access to the airport, police confirmed on Thursday morning.
According to a DPA reporter at the scene, several protesters entered through a fence in the early hours and glued themselves to the runway at Germany’s largest airport.
“All security authorities are currently working to resolve the disturbances as quickly as possible,” said a spokesperson for the Federal Police stationed at the airport.
In a post on X, Last Generation called for an end to the use of fossil fuels by 2030.
“The continued extraction and burning of oil, gas and coal is a threat to our existence,” the group said.
The action comes after Last Generation activists glued themselves to the tarmac at Germany’s Cologne/Bonn airport on Wednesday, briefly disrupting air traffic.
