A West Midlands police officer and his canine partner have been sent to Paris to help with security measures for the Olympic Games.
Police dog Minnie and trainer Sergeant Chris Roberts carried out checks at the athletes’ village and sports facilities ahead of Friday’s opening ceremony.
The force said Sergeant Roberts and the seven-year-old Springer Spaniel had a great bond and had worked together since Minnie qualified in 2018.
“Minnie is a star,” Sergeant Roberts said. “She’s our smallest operational police dog, but she doesn’t let that fool her.”
He added: “She is a fantastic fetch dog and has had great success over the years.
“It’s an honor to work with her at the Paris Olympics.”
Since Minnie qualified, she has worked with Sergeant Roberts at high profile events such as the 2019 NATO summit and the Commonwealth Games.
“It is truly an honor to represent the force and the country in supporting the security operation,” Sergeant Roberts said.
At the end of Friday’s search missions, all dogs involved were invited to the British Embassy to visit the staff and the ambassador, who extended their thanks to all the handlers and the dogs for their efforts and commitments in representing British policing. .
