Everyone has seen explosions at gas stations in Hollywood Movies or television programs. But let’s be real, these scenes are pure fantasy aided by CGI or pyrotechnics. If you’re wondering what the real thing is like, a video from somewhere in the Middle East shows the unfolding of such an event.
Bear breaks into a car accident and drags the body into the forest.
While the entire gas station doesn’t turn into a huge ball of fire, there are pillars of fire that are quite scary. They are contained in a section of the stationwhere the storage tank is, which luckily isn’t exactly where the pumps and all the people are.
After the jets of fire, the ground in that section shakes in a surreal scene. This is equally frightening and we can only imagine what would have happened if someone had been walking or driving there at the time of the explosion.
As debris falls and dust mixes with smoke, people at gas stations panic. Some of them flee on foot. Others hurriedly get into the car and start it. A guy drives off with the gas pump nozzle still in the car, the hose coming loose as he takes off.
But two cars had just been left at the pumps, and the owners clearly thought their lives were worth more than salvaging their vehicles. We can’t disagree with that instinct, especially when it comes to a low-quality Hyundai.
A quick Internet search turns up story after story of explosions at gas stations around the world in recent years. Many of them were mass casualty events, including one in Mexico where 91 people died.
The fact that this gas station has had no apparent deaths or injuries is nothing short of a miracle. Still, what a scary situation to see firsthand.
