New Delhi:

One person died and six others were injured after a mass shooting in a park in the city of Rochester, New York, today, according to local media.

Rochester Police Department Capt. Greg Bello told reporters at a news conference that police responded to Maplewood Park around 6:20 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports that shots were fired during a large gathering. They found several people with gunshot wounds and a large group of people fleeing the scene.

According to police, a 20-year-old man died, another was in a life-threatening condition and five more people were hospitalized with “relatively minor injuries” at this time as a result of the shooting.

Police said some people were transported to the hospital in private vehicles overnight and others by ambulance.

The identity of the shooting victim has not yet been released.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the park, including Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriffs, Rochester Police and New York State Police.
