Iran ordered three days of national mourning following the assassination of top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, with a funeral march in the capital planned for Thursday, IRNA news agency reported.

Haniyeh will be buried in Qatar after funeral prayers on Friday, the Palestinian Islamic movement said.

Hamas said its leader was killed in an Israeli attack in Tehran. Haniyeh was visiting the Iranian capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian.

Israel has not yet commented on the incident. Iran and Hamas announced retaliation.
