The Economic Development Board (EDB) of Mauritius will carry out a promotional campaign for financial services in India, namely in Mumbai, Ahmedabad – GIFT City, Coimbatore and Chennai in August.

The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Hon. Soomilduth Bholah will lead the delegation made up of senior officials from his Ministry, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and the Mauritius Economic Development Board.

Ties between Mauritius and India are not just limited to geographical proximity. They are deeply rooted in historical, cultural and economic ties that have stood the test of time. Bilateral relations have consistently demonstrated a commitment to promoting mutual respect, understanding and cooperation.

India has been one of Mauritius’ largest trading partners since 2005. Trade between India and Mauritius has grown by 132% in the last 17 years. Mauritius and India signed the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) in 2021. It should be noted that CECPA is the first trade agreement signed by India with an African country.

Mauritius continues to be the largest source of cumulative FDI in India, accounting for around 25% of total FDI in India during the period April 2000 to March 2024.

The central objectives of this mission are:

  • further consolidate Mauritius as a platform of choice for investment in Africa

  • explore avenues of collaboration for the India-Africa Corridor

  • renew the confidence of the Indian investment community and maintain dynamism following concrete interests and guidelines for investments destined for Africa generated from a previous mission carried out in March 2024; It is

  • reaffirm IFC Mauritius’ position as the preferred cross-border platform.

During the mission, the delegation will showcase the potential that IFC offers in Mauritius as an investment hub for the Indian investment community. There will be networking sessions and one-on-one meetings with potential investors, including law firms, fund and asset managers and wealth managers.

It is also expected that the Hon. Minister Bholah will deliver a keynote address at Elektrotec 2024, one of the largest trade events in the industrial electronics sector in Coimbatore, India.

Additionally, the EDB will deliver a presentation on the jurisdiction’s diverse trade offerings and encourage the public to consider Mauritius as the preferred trade and investment channel for Africa and the world. Media events were scheduled to further showcase Mauritius as a jurisdiction of certainty, predictability and substance.
