New Delhi:

Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish shooter who gained global attention following his silver medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has joined the Elon Musk-owned social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Dikec secured second place in the 10-meter air pistol event for mixed teams, together with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan.

Dikec’s fame, however, goes beyond his heroism in Paris. A photo of his relaxed demeanor and casual style during the competition made him a viral sensation. Wearing regular glasses, a T-shirt and keeping his left hand casually in his pocket, Dikec’s unorthodox approach stood out. Unlike his competitors, who often use specialized equipment such as headphones, special lenses or hats, Dikec opted for a minimalist style.

After joining X, one of his first posts was directed at Elon Musk. Sharing a photo from the Olympic event, which quickly became a popular meme, Dikec wrote: “Hi Elon, do you think future robots can win medals at the Olympics with their hands in their pockets? What unites continents?

Musk responded: “Robots will always hit the center of the target.”

This exchange has already gone viral on social media.

Despite the Internet frenzy, Dikec isn’t bothered by his viral status. His laid-back style has drawn comparisons to film icon James Bond, with social media users dubbing him “The name is Dikec. Yusuf Dikec.” Amid the attention given to Dikec, some called for the same recognition from his partner, Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, who also adopted a casual stance with his hands in his pockets, albeit with headphones and a visor.
