TROOPING the Color is a ceremonial event held at the Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall every year to celebrate the monarch’s official birthday.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles will take part in Trooping the Color 2024, even as he continues his recovery from cancer.
What is color trope?
Trooping the Color is an event that takes place every year, dating back to Charles II in the 17th century.
At the beginning, the monarch is greeted by a royal salute and the National Anthem.
The parade then begins and ends with a second royal salute.
King Charles and other members of the Royal Family later gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch a Royal Air Force flyover.
The king traditionally has two birthdays: Charles’ actual birthday on November 14, as well as an official birthday marked each summer by the Trooping the Color ceremony.
The celebration takes place in June – monarchs originally celebrated their official birthdays on the second Thursday in June, but the date was changed to the second Saturday in June 1959.
The reason this strange tradition began is quintessentially British – namely, the UK’s temperamental climate.
It was started by George II in 1748 because the weather was too bad to hold his Birthday Parade on the actual date of November.
Why is it called Trooping the Color?
In order for soldiers to recognize the appearance of their regiment’s colors, it was necessary for the colors to be positioned in front of the soldiers.
The purpose of this was for them to be familiar with their unit in battle.
This was achieved by young officers marching between ranks of troops formed into lines with their colors raised.
The term ‘Trooping the Colors’ originated from this tradition.

When is Trooping the Color and what time does it start?
This year the parade takes place on June 15, 2024.
It will be performed by more than 1,350 soldiers from the Household Division Regiment and the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, including more than 300 musicians from the Massed Bands.
Another 250 Foot Guard soldiers will also be reviewed by Her Majesty.

Every year, a different regiment parades in Trooping the Color.
Each regiment has a colonel in command, who is normally a royal officer or senior in the British Army.
King Charles is the Colonel of the Household Division Regiment.
The event starts at around 10am, with the Royal Air Force flyover at around 1pm.

How can I watch Trooping the Color?
If you managed to get a ticket, you will be able to watch the parade from the specially built stands.
But if you missed it, you can always beat the crowds and look for a spot on the Mall or on the edge of St James’ Park – but it’s advisable to get there early.
The Trooping of the Color will also be broadcast live on the BBC.

Can I still get tickets for Trooping the Color?
It’s possible request tickets and participate in a vote to buy a place for the event.
Those lucky enough to be successful will be seated in the stands at Trooping the Colour, with tickets costing £30.
Unfortunately, voting closed on March 24, 2024 – so it’s too late for this year.
If you want to watch the parade, you’ll have to find a seat on the Mall or St James’ Park – or alternatively watch it on TV.

Is there a Trooping the Color rehearsal?
The Colonel’s Review, which takes place on June 8th this year, is a dress rehearsal for Trooping the Color.
The Princess of Wales will not return to public duties for the Colonel’s Review, it has been confirmed.
Princess Kate normally gave the salute at the ceremonial military event.
Kate also missed the Brigade Major Review – another Troop rehearsal, which was held on 30 May.

It involved almost a thousand soldiers and around 240 horses from the Household Division, and was performed before an audience of over 1,000 people on the Horse Guards Parade.
She was represented by Lieutenant-Colonel James Shaw, brigade major of the Household Division, who designed this year’s show and acted as the chief inspector officer of the day in the Princess’s absence.
The mother of three confirmed she had an unspecified form of cancer on March 22 in an emotional video message.

What is the Trooping the Color route?
Every year, the Trooping the Color route is the same, seeing the King travel by carriage down the Mall from Buckingham Palace.
The monarch then returns to the Palace and watches the military parade from the balcony with other members of the Royal Family.
Troops march through Buckingham Palace, before continuing along the Mall to Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall, and back to the Palace.
Her Majesty and other royals will then be treated to a Royal Air Force flight ticket.
