MEGHAN Markle has been branded a “Marmite” character by a royal expert who says she is avoiding the UK to avoid being booed again.

Prince Harry, 39, is set to make a transatlantic trip to the UK next week for an Invictus Games event – without his wife by his side.

The Duke of Sussex will also attend the Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday, May 8, the foundation has confirmed.

And ITV News royal correspondent Chris Ship told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive program that Meghan is scared of being booed at St Paul’s for the SECOND time.

Harry and Meg were last at the London landmark in 2022 for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, where they exited the car to the sound of overwhelming boos.

Chris Ship said The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show: “The difficulty is that you remember the last time they went to St Paul’s Cathedral, which was for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and they were booed.

“We heard boos for them. We should make it clear that there were people rooting for them too, but there were definitely boos in St Paul’s Cathedral.

“So going back there, I can see why Meghan might not want to accompany Harry there.”

After Harry’s likely short trip to Britain, he and Meghan will head to Nigeria for the next stop on their Invictus Games tour.

A source said Meghan had “shown no interest” in returning to the UK.

However, Meghan, who is of Nigerian descent, will join Harry later on his trip to Africa.

Chris added that Meghan’s “Marmite character” will be seen very differently in Africa – and is the reason she no doubt agreed to go.

Two reasons why Meghan will NOT come to Britain with Harry – as royal divide is likely to overshadow Invictus message, expert says

He continued: “I think Nigerians will do everything they can to make this trip a success and put Nigeria on the map.

“But we have to remember that however much Meghan in this country has a bit of a Marmite character, people love her or people don’t really love her, she is likely to be seen very differently in Africa.

“So I would have thought that she would draw a large crowd to see her because she is a figure on the global stage and she is coming to their country.

“They’re going to want to put out a red carpet, almost as red as they would put out for a king or a queen.”

The couple will participate in “cultural activities” at the invitation of the chief of the Defense Staff of the West African country.

On Harry and Meghan’s first trip to the country as a couple, they will meet military personnel and their families and take part in traditional cultural activities, according to Nigerian media.

Meghan, 42, opted to stay at the couple’s £12million Montecito mansion in sunny California with her children Archie and Lilibet as she feared a “hostile reception”.

Richard Fitzwilliams previously told The Sun that “the Sussexes do not have the trust of the Royal Family” and he is not surprised that Meghan will not arrive in London with Harry.

He said: “I never thought Meghan would come because of the hostility towards her, but I want to say that no one needs to emphasize that it is hostile.

“And in any case, her presence at the reception would overshadow the message of the service, and you wouldn’t want that, as far as Harry is concerned.

“You have to hope that everyone is interested in resolving the dispute, so I hope that can happen.

“But this will happen because of private contact, contact that we would not know existed.

“I mean, this has a much, much better chance anyway. But the problem, essentially, is one of trust.

“The Sussexes do not have the trust of the royal family. That Oprah interview, which caused so much damage, was actually released at a time when the Duke of Edinburgh was ill in hospital.

“This is something the royal family would not have forgotten either.

“But looking to the future, I must of course hope that the royal feud will be resolved in some way. The king has always kept the door open for Harry, but that does not necessarily mean that he would invariably receive a warm welcome.”

This is despite Meghan having already participated in the Invictus Games with Harry in Toronto, Sydney, The Hague and Dusseldorf.

She hasn’t set foot in the UK since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
