The royal held a private meeting with former England star David Beckham yesterday – after snubbing his wayward son Harry.

Becks, 49, bonded with Charles at his country home in Highgrove, Glos., to find out more about his charity, the King’s Foundation, a source close to the King confirmed last night.

It came after Charles, 75, had a busy schedule and was too busy to meet Harry, 39, during his three days in London, following years of his son’s public attacks on his family.

Harry has spent the last four years attacking the Royal Family, including Charles, Camilla, William and Kate, firing shots in TV interviews, his six-part Netflix series and his shocking memoir Spare.

The Sun exclusively revealed last October that the football ace had accepted an invitation to speak to the King to explore ways they could work together for a charity that provides skills training for young people.

Becks, known as Goldenballs, distanced himself from Prince Harry following his public attacks on the Royal Family after being an ambassador for the Invictus Games.

It came after Charles joked about being “let out of the cage” while William played beach volleyball in his first public engagement since Harry returned to Britain.

Charles today met military personnel and their families during a visit to the 3rd Royal School of Military Engineering at Gibraltar Barracks in Minley, Hampshire.

The monarch apologized to the Army for making a last-minute visit to the training base, in what was his first military engagement today since announcing his return to public service.

But the king was all smiles and jokingly said he wanted to come as soon as “I was allowed out of my cage.”

Upon being led to the officers’ mess by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Grant, commander of 3RSME, King Charles said to him today: “I apologize for taking you by surprise, when this opportunity presented itself and I was able to get out of my cage, I wanted to come and take a look.

Charles was welcomed by Lord Lieutenant Nigel Atkinson and Major General Eldon Millar before receiving a salute from a Barracks Guard made up of officers from the school.

The 75-year-old king took over the role of colonel-in-chief in March last year, which was previously held by Queen Elizabeth II.

Arriving at Gibraltar Barracks in Minley, Wilts, he said: “Thank you very much, I apologize for taking you by surprise, this opportunity came along and allowed me to get out of the cage and I wanted to come and have a look.”

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Grant later said: “We only had, if you take the holiday into account, only seven or eight days to organize everything, but when you get that call, is it possible to pay a visit to Her Majesty, there is only one answer .”

The King was beaming as he spoke to trainees, trainers and their families in a courtyard of the Officers’ Mess.

Speaking to pregnant Sophie Mairs, 37, who is six weeks away from her due date, the royal joked: “Are you sure you should be here today?”

Sophie, whose WO2 husband Barry Mairs, 38, is in engineering, said afterwards: “I said I couldn’t lose.

“It’s not every day that the king comes to where your husband works.”

Outside, 6-year-old Louis Bacon handed the king a hand-drawn drawing he had made.

Louis said: “I wanted to do something special.”

Six-year-old Lucas Stewart handed the king some honey made in the barracks,

The King said, “Oh, just what I need.”
