PRINCE Harry is due to return to the UK next week for an Invictus event, but Meghan Markle may “snub” a visit to “avoid booing”, a royal expert claims.
TVI News‘ royal correspondent Chris Ship shared how he witnessed Prince Harry enthusiastically introduced Meghan as his girlfriend at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto.
Love-struck Prince Harry and his then-American actress girlfriend looked every inch the loved-up couple as they were seen holding hands at their first public engagement together.
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, Chris said: “The first [Invictus event] was in London and then there was one in Florida, and we had Toronto, where he introduced Meghan to the world for the first time.
“I remember being there when she walked into that courtat Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto.”
Following Meghan’s triumphant Invictus introduction and later her fairytale royal wedding in 2018, support for the couple was initially enormous.
However, seven years later, Chris claims Meghan will now skip the upcoming event on Wednesday for fear of a negative reception.
Chris told The Sun’s royal editor Matt Wilkinson: “He’s[Harry]coming back to mark the 10th anniversary of Invictus[Harry’s]coming back to mark the 10th anniversary of Invictus[Harry}estávoltandoparamarcaro10ºaniversáriodoInvictus[Harry’s}comingbacktomarkthe10thanniversaryofInvictus
“He will give a reading at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
“Meghan isn’t going with him, so no Duchess of Sussex.”
The Duchess of Sussex, 42, is said to have chosen to stay at the couple’s £12million Montecito mansion in California with her children Archie and Lilibet over fears of a “hostile reception”.
The couple’s brutal attack on the royals in their March 2021 interview with friend Oprah Winfrey was followed by their Netflix series Harry & Meghan.
Harry received more criticism for his hard-hitting memoir Spare, published in January 2023.
The couple have attacked King Charles, Camilla, William and Kate since leaving the firm and moving to California.
After Harry and Meghan were booed as they got out of the car at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, Chris claimed Meghan is now scared it will happen a second time.
He said: “The difficulty is that you remember the last time they went to St Paul’s Cathedral, which was for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, they were booed.
