A ROYAL expert has revealed that Meghan Markle’s popularity is in the gutter because of her “monetization” of the royals.

The Duchess of Sussex’s popularity has taken a significant hit with a new poll revealing that she is not that popular with Brits.

The Ipsos poll, which marks the first anniversary of King Charles’ coronation, showed that 75% of Brits are not fans of Meghan.

Prince Harry was also hit by the results, languishing near the bottom of the popularity table with just a 31% approval rating.

Meghan and Harry and the royal family separated and did so with so many public appearances that caused problems

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams called Meghan’s popularity “absolutely appalling”.

He told The Sun Online: “She is the only member of the royal family who has actually passed away.”

Fitzwilliams attributes much of Meghan and Harry’s popularity problems to their post-royal public life.

He criticized the couple for “capitalizing” on their royal connections.

The expert added: “The problem is that when the Sussexes stopped being royals, they started attacking the royal family and monetizing their royal connections.

“This seems very destructive to me. They should have made more conscious advertising decisions much earlier.”

But the research also shows that the couple appears to resonate more with younger generations – with Meghan boasting a 42% rating among 18-34 year olds.

However, the expert is convinced that the general sentiment remains negative.

He added: “Obviously there was support during the interview period with Oprah and Meghan is American.

“But I think people’s eyes have been open to the fact that they exploit the connection they have with the Crown and, however, also attack the Monarchy.

“If they weren’t royal, I don’t think there would be any particular interest in them.”

He claims the consequences of these actions are evident following Meghan’s decision not to attend Harry’s upcoming service at St Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The royal commentator said: “Harry is very wise not to bring Meghan to the Invictus Games anniversary because it just wouldn’t work.”

The couple’s rift over Omid Scobie’s comments and his previous incendiary interviews have done little to repair their turbulent relationship with the Palace.

He added: “But it was the way Meghan, Harry and the royal family separated themselves and did so with so many public appearances that caused problems.

“I don’t think the royal family is particularly concerned about Harry and Meghan’s popularity.

“I think it’s the Sussexes who should be worried about the lack of that because it’s so low in Britain. And it’s also low in the United States.

“They were quite brutal personal attacks. Personal things were said about the Prince of Wales about William’s alleged attack on Harry, which was the last headline in Spare.”

Even though Meghan offered an olive branch to the palace, that doesn’t mean she’s likely to give up her new life in California, he said.

The former Hollywood actress and Harry are focused on their various media projects – including their non-profit organization Archewell.

Fitzwilliams added: “There is absolutely no doubt that the rest would never have reached this stage if they had stopped or not started attacking the royal family as they believe they received such unfair treatment when they were members of it.”
