But royal fans noticed that the Sussexes were nowhere to be seen – despite Meghan being labeled as a guest, the Vouge editor would “love” to host.

Expert Richard Fitzwilliams has now revealed why he believes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t show up at the big New York event.

He says that while the logistics of Harry getting to the UK from New York – how he landed today – may have been a factor, he believed there was something bigger at play.

Richard stated that as Harry and Meghan would not be the center of attention at the Met Gala, they would not want to go.

In 2019, Wintour said she would love to have Meghan and Princess Kate at the event – and that they should leave their husbands at home.

Speaking with NBC’s Jenna Bush Hager she said: “I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge together.

“That would be my dream couple. They could leave their husbands at home. Those are the two I want.

Speaking to The Sun today, royal expert Richard said: “Indeed, if such a pair could be imagined, you can imagine the world would be absolutely fascinated by them.

“But it seems very unlikely to me that this will materialize now.”

The expert said he believed the Sussexes would never have appeared as “the A-Listers would not have been impressed”.

Prince Harry ‘returns to Britain’ for quick UK trip, but ‘won’t meet King Charles’

Richard continued: “You get the impression that they go to things because they want attention to focus on them.

“You see and are seen. That’s always been par for the course: Hollywood celebrities can have fun because they’re new simply by showing up.

“You get the impression that the Sussexes, where they were on the Times 100 most influential people list of 2021, might well not be on that list if it were drawn up now, because they haven’t really achieved that much.

“Put it this way, I doubt Hollywood celebrities are all that impressed with what they’ve achieved.”

He added: “But what you don’t find is Harry and Megan confident enough to show up just for the sake of showing up, rather than showing up when the focus is just on them.

“They need to have the confidence to show up when the spotlight isn’t on them, and I don’t think they’ve achieved that yet.”

You get the impression that they go to things because they want the attention to be focused on them.

The Sun has approached the Sussexes for comment.

Richard was speaking when Harry touched down in the UK – and revealed he has no plans to see his father while he’s here.

A spokesperson for Harry responded to “speculation about whether or not the Duke will meet his father while in the UK this week.”

They said: “Unfortunately it will not be possible due to Her Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke, of course, understands his father’s schedule and various other priorities and looks forward to seeing him soon.”

Harry and Charles last met at Clarence House in February for their first face-to-face meeting in 16 months.

The prince flew to the UK alone, without Meghan or their children Archie and Lilibet.

But Meghan will join Harry on his visit to Nigeria later this week, it’s clear.

Inside Archie’s Lavish 5th Birthday

By Becky Pemberton and Rebecca Miller

PRINCE ARCHIE turned five on Monday and was likely celebrating with his family in Montecito, California.

The Sun spoke exclusively to royal commentator Ingrid Seward about how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be celebrating their eldest son’s birthday.

She stated: “As Archie has no cousins in California, he will invite his friends from school – possibly the entire class. And the cool locals with kids and the Hollywood scene.

“The party will possibly have a superhero theme, popular among this age group.

“The food will all be gluten-free or possibly your choice, and there will be a themed birthday cake.”

Archie’s birthday cake could very well be made by Meghan.

On his fourth birthday last year, according to sources close to the family, she chose to make a lemon cake for her son with fruit from the garden, the Express reported.

She added: “The games will be organized with an artist or a group of artists – all the young people in Los Angeles who are not actors are party entertainers!

“They can organize a garden themed adventure or something like a forest theme with cowboys and Indians or a superhero theme.

“They can bring in exotic animals and make a fancy zoo for the kids. Llamas. Miniature ponies, etc. – talking parrots or domesticated monkeys.”
