The Duchess of Sussex gave a touching nod to her children Lilibet and Archie as she spent Mother’s Day in Nigeria.
Meghan Markle, 42, celebrated Mother’s Day in America by wearing her £3,198 ($3,990) Carolina Herrera ‘yellow silk overlay column dress’, which she previously wore when she announced her pregnancy with Princess Lilibet in 2021.
On Valentine’s Day that year, she and her husband, Prince Harry, announced they were expecting their second child, sharing a black and white photo.
The monochrome photo showed the couple sitting under a tree, with Harry resting his hand on Meghan’s head as she held her baby bump.
The mother-of-two was also photographed wearing the same head-turning silk dress when she shared a post on social media to mark her son Prince Archie’s first birthday in May 2020.
But instead of wearing her brown hair down like she did before, she opted for a messy hairstyle.
Meghan donned the sparkly floor-length dress just 24 hours after vowing to add more color to her wardrobe during her visit to Nigeria.
Inside Sussex’s trip to Nigeria
The Duke and Duchess will spend three days in Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games.
The Sussexes will be taken to a hotel when they land for the first time today, then visit the Light Academy, a school in nearby Wuse, before meeting defense leaders and visiting injured soldiers.
Tomorrow Harry will be on the field with a team during a sitting volleyball match played by Nigeria’s Invictus team, before he and Meghan meet more soldiers and their families.
That afternoon, Meghan will host a Women in Leadership event with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian-American economist who is director general of the World Trade Organization.
Then, on Sunday, the Sussexes will attend a basketball clinic that promotes young people’s entry into the sport, enjoy a cultural reception and visit a polo fundraising event.
On Saturday, the 42-year-old said: “I [had] I quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colors so I can fit in with all of you in your amazing style. I am very overwhelmed.”
Earlier in the day, Meghan wore a traditional Nigerian skirt given to her as a gift as she and Harry revealed a partnership between the Archewell Foundation and non-profit organization Giants of Africa, which aims to empower young people through sport.
The royal couple then attended a training session at Ilupeju Senior Grammar School in Lagos, Nigeria, before Harry, 39, showed off his basketball skills.
He said: “The power of sport can change lives.
“It brings people together and creates a community and there are no barriers, which is the most important thing.”
True to her word to inject a little more color into her outfits, the Duchess later donned the vibrant yellow dress for the couple’s visit to the home of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, where they were guests of honor.
The elegant royal paired the dress with some chic nude leather sandals and accessorized with her signature AURate turtleneck necklace and £2,605 ($3,250) gold hammered disc earrings by Jennifer Meyer.
She also spruced up the outfit by adding her gold Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet, Lorraine Schwartz ‘Evil Eye’ bracelet, Ariel Gordon hexagonal diamond tennis bracelet, and Birks ‘snowflake’ diamond ring.
