PRINCE Harry walks around like a stinker and is similar to Edward VIII, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex’s great-great-uncle abdicated after just 325 days as king to marry socialite Wallis Simpson.

And historian Gareth Russell reckons Harry, who left The Firm for California in January 2020 with American wife Meghan Markle, is showing similar signs.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive with Matt Wilkinson, Gareth drew comparisons between Edward VIII and Harry’s visit to King Charles following his cancer diagnosis.

He said: “I would compare Prince Harry to Edward VIII.

“Edward VIII sometimes returned for important events, such as the death of his brother in 1952, and other times for shorter visits.

“His sister-in-law, who became queen mother, said that you had to be careful about where you hosted him.

“They would choose places where the royals had an ‘exit’ that they could leave at a certain time.

“Otherwise, the Queen Mother’s concern was that Edward VIII would hang around like a bad smell and inevitably ask for an increase in his allowance.”

Gareth also said Meghan was compared to Wallis by a royal because she hates her sister-in-law and wants to be a star.

Prince Philip reportedly drew comparisons between the Duchess of Sussex and King Edward VIII’s American socialite wife.

Philip is said to have nicknamed Meghan “DOW” in a nod to Wallis’ Duchess of Windsor title after she married Edward in 1937.

Their relationship led to Edward’s abdication a year earlier, plunging the Royal Family into chaos.

He described how Wallis “detested her sister-in-law” and “wanted to be the star of the monarchy”.

The author added: “Supposedly Prince Philip made the comparison [with Meghan] and he met Wallace.

“One of the things that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor Edward and Wallis did in the 1930s, 40s and 50s were these very controversial quasi-royal trips, not royal trips.

“They wined and dined, they did some things in America, like the Sussexes, they went on tours that weren’t tours that irritated the Royal Family.

“I think Wallis Simpson has two personality types, depending on the author you’re listening to, and in many ways they’re the same as the ones we attribute to Meghan.

“Wallis is presented as someone who was ambitious, hated her sister-in-law, wanted to be the star of the monarchy, was very, very difficult to work with and essentially alienated Edward from being a working member of royalty. family.”

Why did Edward VIII abdicate?

American divorcee Wallis Simpson will forever be known as the woman who rocked the royal family and plunged the monarchy into crisis when Prince Edward married her in 1937.

Their relationship reportedly began in 1934, but Edward – then a prince – denied this to his father, King George V.

On January 20, 1936, George V died and Edward ascended the throne.

Fears were beginning to grow that the new king planned to marry Wallis – something the Church of England condemned, claiming she was a divorced woman with two living ex-husbands.

The British were also reluctant to accept an American as queen – which led Wallis to flee to France to avoid heavy press coverage.

Edward was told he could not keep the throne and marry Wallis and sent shockwaves across the world when, in December 1936, he decided to abdicate the throne.

As a result, her stammering younger brother “Bertie”, the Queen’s current father, became George VI.

In his announcement, Edward broadcast on the BBC saying he could not do the king’s work “without the help and support of the woman I love”.

Gareth also says he believes “an alternative royal family is emerging”.

He said: “For all intents and purposes, this is a real possibility.

“The problem for the Sussexes is that when you start doing something like this, people become much more critical of what you do outside of it – like business ventures or quasi-royal travel.

“People are going to put them under a microscope because they’re calling it ‘Harry and Meghan’s Office.’

“It’s interesting. I wonder if this is part of a plan to move away from some of the harsh headlines they’ve had over the last couple of years?

“Will it perhaps be a slightly more socially conservative direction and consider themselves royals in exile for lack of a better word?

“What I wonder is whether they are acting on the advice that people don’t want to hear them criticizing the royal family.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced on January 8, 2020 that they would step down as “senior” members of the Royal Family.

On January 18 it was announced that Harry and Meghan would “no longer be working members of the British Royal Family” and would not use their “Royal Highness” titles.

A palace spokeswoman said the couple would no longer receive public money and would reimburse the £2.4 million cost of renovating their country home – Frogmore – in Windsor, Berks.

The following day, Harry said in a heartfelt speech: “Our hope was to continue to serve the Queen, the Commonwealth and my military associations without public funding. Unfortunately, this was not possible.”

The Duke of Sussex said he found “the love and happiness I have waited for all my life” with Meghan.
