PRINCESS Diana reportedly made “Harry apologize to Charles,” according to former royal butler Paul Burrell.
The Duke of Sussex flew to the UK this month for a three-day visit but did not meet his father or brother, Prince William.
Paul, who worked as Princess Diana’s butler until her death in 1997, said the late royal would have acted as a peacemaker between Harry and the rest of the family.
Speaking with Lovely, the former employee said: “There is no love lost between Diana and Charles, but what was important to Diana is that both boys should have been influenced by both their parents and she would want them to respect their father.
“She would have made Harry apologize to Charles, and Diana would have been the mediator of that – she was always the peacemaker.
“She wanted the four of them to be together. Her heart broke when it disintegrated.”
Paul added: “The boys would have stayed glued to their mother and her word would have been final. Now there is no one to solve them, I am afraid it is a lost cause.”
During his trip to the UK, Prince Harry celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games – organized for injured military personnel – at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Noticeably absent were King Charles and Prince William, although Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, and Diana’s sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, were present.
Prince Harry’s spokesperson released a statement about why he didn’t meet his father during the trip to the UK – but made no mention of William.
It said: “Unfortunately this will not be possible due to Her Majesty’s full programme.
“The Duke, of course, understands his father’s schedule and various other priorities and looks forward to seeing him soon.”
Harry didn’t see his brother Prince William – but was “looking forward” to seeing his father during the visit and was “deeply hurt”.
Even more upset, Prince Harry was reportedly “in tears” when he discovered that Charles had given trained pilot William the new military honor of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army. Army Air Corps, the same day he landed in the United Kingdom.
Harry, who trained in the Army Air Corps and served with them in Afghanistan, is said to have found it a “tremendous insult”.
Had Harry and his wife Meghan not stepped down as senior royals, it is believed the ceremonial appointment would have been his.
Harry and Charles last met at Clarence House in February for their first face-to-face meeting in 16 months.
The prince flew to the UK alone, without Meghan or their children Archie and Lilibet.
William was hurt by his brother’s attacks and has not spoken to Harry since Queen Elizabeth’s wedding funeral.
This follows Harry attacking his family in his bombshell Spare memoir and criticizing the royals in his documentary Harry & Meghan.
Harry is upset about William’s new military position
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun:
There is absolutely no doubt [a snub towards Harry].
I think Harry will be distressed by this.
Without a doubt it is something that he takes very personally, we know what he did for the military family, for the Invictus games, which is a wonderful thing, and of course this had a lot of importance in their visit, which was private to Nigeria.
But the fact is that the king is appointing someone he trusts as colonel-in-chief.
I mean, this could be generously described as a mess, but it’s a serious problem, because it tends to show that communication has gone completely out of control, and that’s a generous interpretation of that.
Frankly, I can see why the Sussexes aren’t trusted.
Charles, 75, resumed public duties this month for the first time since beginning cancer treatment.
During Harry’s trip, the king met the public at a garden party at Buckingham Palace, just over two miles away.
Sources claimed the monarch agreed to let his estranged son stay at a royal residence during the trip – but the offer was declined.
Charles reportedly agreed to place Harry in a secret royal residence knowing he did not have a base in the UK, according to The telegraph.
Harry said no because it would leave him in a “visible location with public entry and exit and no police protection”, it was claimed.
Harry ended up staying in a hotel, which could go unnoticed.
A Timeline of Prince Harry’s Family Feud
In 2018, the Sun told how “simmering tension
The first signs of friction emerged after William was introduced to Meghan when she was staying at Kensington Palace.
Once she returned home to Canada, William and Harry sat down for a sibling chat.
He knew Harry was already crazy about her, but it was claimed he advised him to take it slow.
The younger prince reportedly didn’t take the advice very well, with a royal source saying he “went crazy.”
Then, in June 2019, Harry and Meghan officially split from the charity they shared with William and Kate.
The Royal Foundation will be split between the Sussexes and the Cambridges, while the couples focus on their own separate charitable efforts.
Prince William and Prince Harry first established the Royal Foundation in 2009, before Kate joined two years later, shortly after their engagement was announced.
The trio often appeared together at events and the Foundation has had huge success with projects such as the Invictus Games for injured veterans and the Heads Together mental health campaign.
The Royal Foundation said the decision was made after completing a review of its structure – but added that the two couples would continue to work together in the future.
Harry and Meg lived near Kate and Wills on the Kensington Palace estate, but moved to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before baby Archie was born.
The move further fueled rumors of a fallout.
Harry, 39, also hinted in his ITV documentary “Harry and Meghan, An African Journey” that he and his brother had grown apart.
In 2021, Harry and Meghan gave their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Harry accused his father of holding him back financially.
Harry then flew back to the UK to join William in unveiling a statue of his mother, Princess Diana, in the grounds of Kensington Palace. But sources said William did not want to attend the memorial amid the fallout.
In 2022, shortly before the death of her grandmother, the Queen, sources claimed that Kate acts as a “peacemaker” between the siblings.
Harry claimed his brother “knocked him to the ground” during an argument about Meghan, in his memoir.
In Spare, Harry said William labeled Meghan “rude” and “difficult” during a fight.
Harry claimed that William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and…knocked me to the ground.”
He said he was left with a visible injury to his back after the 2019 argument at Nottingham Cottage, in the grounds of Kensington Palace, where he lived at the time.
In January this year, Harry flew to be with Charles following the shock of the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.
Harry flew back to the US the next day – without seeing Wills.
