PRINCE Harry made a fundamental mistake and risks throwing away his dream life in the US forever, a royal expert warns.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, is anxiously awaiting a judge’s decision on whether to release details of his visa application amid concerns he lied about taking cocaine, cannabis and magic mushrooms.

In his bombshell memoir Spare, fifth in line to the throne confessed to drug use but is believed to have omitted details from his archived US residency documents.

The Heritage Foundation said if Harry lied on his application he could be breaking US federal law and should lose his immigration status – forcing him to abandon Meghan Markle and her £12million Montecito mansion.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun that it is a very “embarrassing” situation for Harry and Meghan, regardless of whether the prince was truthful or not.

The Sussexes are made to look like fools

He said: “The fact is it will be very embarrassing, or could be very embarrassing.

“Harry may have included drug use on his application form. If he hasn’t, it will undoubtedly make headlines, and that won’t be beneficial as far as the Sussexes are concerned.

“I don’t think Harry would have written his Spare memoir now, because there is evidence that the Sussexes have, in fact, beefed up the communications team.”

Richard added that the pair prepared to be swung with the “double standard” stick after rejecting years of damaging claims against the Royal Family.

He said: “What we are facing, however, is the possibility of very considerable embarrassment to the Sussexes, that they will be made to look foolish, and the reasons for that, of course, are the attacks they have launched against the Royal family.

“And the fact that if you attack an institution, the supporters of that institution, or those who believe you were very reckless and very foolish, believe that there are double standards.”

Harry had previously tried to block the release of his visa application after a think tank drew attention to the case.

Last month, President Joe Biden’s lawyers confirmed they had complied with a court order to move to the next step.

The court filing said: “Defendant, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, respectfully informs the court that it has complied with the court’s order of March 7, 2024, by filing statements with attachments ex parte in camera [in private] analysis.”

It comes after lawyers for the US government argued that Harry’s claims about drugs in the explosive book are “not proof” that he actually took them.

And the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees immigration, said making Harry’s documents public would violate his privacy.

Sussex ‘trying to rival the royal family’

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle are desperately trying to be rivals of the royal family to save their image, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have just returned to the US after a three-day trip to Nigeria.

The Sussexes kicked off their “faux royal tour” with a visit to Lightway Academy, a primary and secondary school in the capital.

They then visited Nigeria’s defense headquarters on Friday to meet military wives and senior officials.

The following day, Harry was spotted playing volleyball, before Meghan referred to Nigeria as “my country”.

Many royal fans were quick to point out the similarities between the trip and an official royal trip.

And now a royal expert says he believes “an alternative royal family is emerging.”

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive with Matt Wilkinson, Gareth Russell said: “To all intents and purposes, that is a real possibility.

“The problem for the Sussexes is that when you start doing something like this, people become much more critical of what you do outside of it – like business ventures or quasi-royal travel.

“People are going to put them under a microscope because they’re calling it ‘Harry and Meghan’s Office.’

“It’s interesting. I wonder if this is part of a plan to move away from some of the harsh headlines they’ve had over the last couple of years?

“Will it perhaps be a slightly more socially conservative direction and consider themselves royals in exile for lack of a better word?

“What I wonder is whether they are acting on the advice that people don’t want to hear them criticizing the royal family.”

Russell now believes Harry and Meghan may be planning more “fake royal trips” – including around the US.

He explained: “Their popularity at the moment is very low in America, but that could change.

“Public opinion is always a kind of rollercoaster.

“But they absolutely could (tour the US) and there are indications that they will.”

But Judge Carl Nichols asked authorities to turn over the documents, saying their privacy argument was “insufficiently detailed.”

Heritage Foundation attorney Samuel Dewey previously accused the US government of “providing special treatment to celebrities” to enter the US.

Biden administration lawyers rejected the claim of special treatment.

Harry cut ties with Britain in April when he listed his not-so-humble California abode as his primary residence.

And in June last year, around the same time King Charles evicted his son and daughter-in-law from Frogmore Cottage, Harry entered “New country/state normally resident” as America on Companies House records.
