AN EXPERT has insisted the Royal Family are not racist – and Harry and Meghan’s claim in the Oprah interview was “horrific”.

Royal photographer Arthur Edwards MBE told Matt Wilkinson, host of The Sun’s new Royal Exclusive program, that the Sussexes’ big interview with Oprah Winfrey was “so one-sided”.

During their March 2021 interview, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a series of shocking allegations.

The pair sparked a racial row by claiming an unnamed member of the Royal Family spoke about “how dark his (Archie’s) skin might be when he’s born.”

During the Oprah interview, Meghan also said that she was prevented from seeking mental health support when she was in crisis.

It is understood that the Royal Family was deeply upset by the allegations made.

In the days following the interview broadcast in Britain, Prince William was forced to take the unprecedented stance of saying that the royals are “not a racist family.”

He spoke during an official visit to a school after the Queen released a carefully worded statement saying she was “saddened” by the interview but “recollections may vary”.

Omid Scobie’s first Dutch version of his book Endgame, released in 2023, suggested that Kate Middleton and King Charles were the royals who made comments about Archie’s skin color.

Speaking to Royal Exclusive, Arthur Edwards MBE said: “The first big interview they did with Oprah Winfrey… I’m thinking about watching it now and, you know, the thing about Archie and the color of his skin and I was – I knew they ” would be boiling hot.

“I knew the Queen would be seething, I knew the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles would be seething, it would be very unfair because one thing they are not is racist.

“I was with the King all over Africa, all over South America, I never saw him – I just got involved and enjoyed the company of these people.

I was at Meg and Harry’s wedding – it was MISERABLE and the worst event I’ve ever been to, says royal expert

“So, you know, there’s no way he would be like that. He’s just – it’s just an unfair thing to say.

“But, you know, she spoke like an actress did, and Oprah responded with ‘wow.’

“It was terrible.”

Harry told Oprah he felt let down by his family – and that he barely spoke to his brother, describing their relationship as “spacey”.

He claimed that his father, Charles, stopped answering his calls after Megxit and was cut off financially by the Royal Family.

He also discussed his relationship with William, saying he loved him “very much” but he and the future king were “on different paths.”

William was reportedly “very upset” by the interview.

Arthur’s comments came after Princess Diana’s former bodyguard insisted the Royal Family is not racist – and said he had never seen any sign of it in the 16 years he worked with them.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, Ken Wharfe said he was adamant there was no racism at The Firm – despite rumors that have emerged in recent years.

Omid Scobie’s first Dutch version of his book Endgame suggested that Kate and Charles were the two members who made comments about the skin color of the couple’s first child.

But Ken, who has worked alongside the royals for more than a decade, said this must be wrong.

He told The Sun: “I have worked with every member of the royal family for 16 years.

“I have never seen a hint of racism, the royal family is not racist.

“They represent the best in my opinion. I’m not saying they’re perfect, but on this particular issue, no, they’re not.”

History of Royal Family racism allegations

In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle alleged that an unnamed member of the Royal Family raised concerns about their son Archie’s skin color while Meghan was pregnant.

Speaking about her son, who was born in 2019, Meghan said there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

The couple refused to name the alleged racist royal, but Oprah said she was told it wasn’t the Queen or Prince Philip.

Queen Elizabeth II released a statement nearly two days after the chat saying the claims would be taken “very seriously.”

She said allegations that a family member raised concerns about Archie’s skin color would be investigated and “addressed privately.”

A palace statement said: “The whole family is saddened to learn how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, especially those of race, are concerning. Although some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of the family.”

Prince Harry later said that people should not be blamed for “unconscious bias”.

Speaking on a podcast with Dax Shepard in May 2021, Harry said that “everyone has a kind of prejudice.”

But he said that “choosing to do nothing” when you realize you have “unconscious bias” is the problem.

Harry told the Armchair Expert podcast: “I thought I knew, having traveled so much and met so many, as diverse a group as possible, I thought I understood life, especially bearing in mind that the countries I was going to were people of color.

“But then I was really shocked when I started going to therapy and that bubble burst and I started doing my own work, a lot of work on discovering and understanding unconscious bias.

“And I thought, wow, I thought since I screwed up and did the work, I thought I knew, but I didn’t know and I still don’t fully know. .”

Harry told Dax that “the world is changing” with a “multiracial” movement driven by young people.

He added: “Unconscious bias, the way I understand it, is not something that is wrong with you, you don’t need to be defensive about it. No one is blaming you, but the moment you realize you have it, what are you doing? are you going to do about it?

“Because if you choose to do nothing, you will continue to feed the problem, you will be heading towards racism.

“Unfortunately, unconscious bias is inherent in each of us, but it is important to educate yourself to be more aware of the problems and be part of the solution.”

The first Dutch version of his book Endgame by Omid Scobie suggested that Kate and Charles were the two royals who made comments about the skin color of Harry and Meghan’s first child, Archie.

The venomous claims were ridiculed by royal experts, and in the end Scobie was criticized for peddling “bullshit” excuses about how the names were included in the Dutch translation.

The book was released in November 2023.

In the English version, Scobie writes: “In the pages of these private letters, two identities were revealed. UK law prevents me from reporting who they were.”
