MEGHAN Markle may be hoping her jams don’t land her in as sticky a situation as her Netflix documentary.

The Sussexes’ Netflix show has lost popularity and been eclipsed by former friends Victoria and David Beckham, according to new figures last week.

The Beckham documentary had 208.5 million hours watched in 2023, between July and December.

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan had 72.9 million hours watched during the year, with just 10.9 million between July and December.

This is despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix series being an instant hit when it debuted in December 2022.

The show was so popular that it was Netflix’s biggest debut at the time, with 81.6 million hours viewed in its first four days.

However, it appears that the initial furor quickly subsided.

This may have been due to fans hoping for a real insight into the show, but instead were frustrated with the couple being “whiny,” as some claimed.

Meanwhile, other viewers criticized Meghan for “mocking” having to curtsy to the late Queen.

In comparison, fans praised David for sharing honestly about his career and a series of comical scenes from family life went viral.

The Beckhams and Sussexes have enjoyed a close friendship over the years, but fissures have emerged in recent years.

The Duke of Sussex reportedly called David to accuse him and his wife Victoria of leaking stories, leaving David ‘furious’.

David was also “snubbed” by Harry after flying 22 hours from London to Sydney at the royal request for the 2018 Invictus Games.

Cracks began to appear in the duo’s friendship in spring 2022, when the former football player invited Prince William and Kate to his son Brooklyn’s wedding – not Harry and Meghan.

At the time, a source said: “David’s attachment to history I came back with William and Kate and they have a very strong relationship and were the choice of wedding guests.

“It was always about them, it was never about Meghan and Harry.

“They are the people that David and Victoria are connected to and it has always been about them because they have a long history together.”

And perhaps it wasn’t a coincidence that following the apparent snub, Meghan, 42, apparently stopped wearing Victoria’s designs – while Kate wore them more often.

She wore one of the designer’s dresses to a January 2023 engagement and was spotted wearing a pair of VB glasses at Wimbledon last time out summer.

She even reintroduced a Victoria Beckham bag into her wardrobe – taking the white Quincy to load on a royal visit in May 2023, the first time she has been seen with him since 2016.

Prince Harry’s ‘contempt’ for David Beckham in Australia

AFTER flying 22 hours from London to Sydney at Prince Harry’s request, David Beckham was puzzled why the prince hadn’t met him.

But the prince had no plans to see the former English football captain, or even be photographed with him, Tom Bower said.

It was October 2018 and Harry was hosting the Invictus Games.

Given that David played a prominent role in bringing the 2012 Olympic Games to Great Britain and a major role in the unsuccessful 2010 football World Cup bid, it seemed natural that Prince Harry would invite David to join him in famous competition for wounded soldiers.

As a man who loved royalty, David would never refuse such an important request.

But, having flown halfway around the world, he was baffled as to why the authorities, after he arrived at the sporting venue, were dancing around to keep him happy but away from Harry.

She didn’t want any competition from David in the media, and especially from his wife, Victoria.

The reason for the distance was Meghan, the newly married Duchess of Sussex.

Last December, David and Victoria were photographed with former US President Barack Obama at a charity event.

A source said Closer: “It’s another humiliating slap in the face. The Obamas were Meghan’s dream ticket to political success and she worked hard to build their relationship.”

However, it is thought that Barack and Michelle took a “step back” from the couple out of respect for the late Queen.

As the Beckhams appear to distance themselves further from the Sussexes, a royal expert has claimed the move has strengthened David’s friendship with Prince William and the King.

Sarah Hewson, royal editor at Talk TV, said: “Perhaps by distancing himself from Harry and Meghan, it has helped David cement his relationship with William and the king.

“I think David has made it very clear which side he is on. David is a self-proclaimed monarchist.

“He queued for 12 hours to see the Queen lying in state and worked with the royals on a number of charities. campaigns.”

Evidence of David’s close ties to King Charles was seen this week, with the former footballer being appointed charity ambassador by King Charles – giving his knighthood credentials a boost.

Former Manchester United ace Becks, 49, surprised the King, 75, last year with a jar of his homemade honey and later chatted about his passion for beekeeping.

Nature lover Charles was also impressed by Beckham’s knowledge and passion for the countryside.

Now the father-of-four has been formally named ambassador for The King’s Foundation – the monarch’s charity founded in 1990.

A source said: “The King and David Beckham really bonded over similar interests.

“This is a huge thing for him and he is delighted. He is truly passionate about his new role.”
